It’s reasonable to expect that the Scottish referendum scheduled - TopicsExpress

It’s reasonable to expect that the Scottish referendum scheduled to be held on the 18th of this September will have a collateral impact of igniting discourses and discussions among the Oromo politicians, specifically between those who pursue the “colonial thesis” and those who advocate the “repression thesis” (both of whom are thought to have significant number of ideological subscribers) on Oromia vis-à-vis Ethiopia. This piece by one of the notable Oromo politician and novelist, Boruu Barraaqaa, seems to have broken the first egg apparently for the “colonial thesis” camp and hence “independent Oromia” advocates. If I have correctly understood his points, Obboo Boruu argues for “independent Oromia” and against “independent Scotland” by drawing some politico-historical parallels between the two nations. It would be good if we can also have similar articles, soon, from the advocates of “repression thesis” who would like to see the Oromo questions be solved under the umbrella of the greater Ethiopian state; so that the overall discourse takes shape of “for” Vs “against” in a way enabling us all learn.
