It’s strange how time flies when you are having fun! This week - TopicsExpress

It’s strange how time flies when you are having fun! This week was no exception. The week started off with a buzz and we all jumped in to help around the lodge and on the concession to get everything ready for a fully packed lodge. From washing vehicles to maintenance all the rangers pulled their weight and although dead tired at times we pulled the wagon through the ditch. On Thursday evening we awaited our guests at main gate as the clouds packed in the South West. The sky turned dark with a thick layer of nimbostratus clouds and we watched as lightning bolts filled the night sky. Sadly…or should I say luckily it did not rain and we got our guests safe and dry to their tents. Nature again gave her best and the sightings rolled in one after the other. The elephants made themselves heard… and definitely seen. Gadi, our resident femalelion made a Zebra kill in the river at Hamerkop crossing and this made for some real exciting sightings. She then went on to take down a Wildebeest in the same spot on Sunday – Everyone was feasting ! Lightning, the female Leopard resident near the River Complex area was spotted several times on drive and she is now becoming a real Marataba celebrity amongst the guests ! Sightings were excellent this weekend, with most other residents on the concession were seen & after every game drive guests were walking into the lodge, smiling from ear to ear! Again I realize how fortunate we are to work on this amazing bushveld. May we never forget that we are here to teach and make our guests aware of how precious our natural heritage is. Remember….Conservation starts with Education. Regards Gerhard Pieters
