It’s that time of year again… PROGRAMMED HOUSING APPLICATION - TopicsExpress

It’s that time of year again… PROGRAMMED HOUSING APPLICATION TIME!!! Some of you have probably heard of Cakes with a Cause before (or at least seen us at the Davis Center selling our yummy treats!) If you haven’t, you’re in luck! I’m the current program director for the program and will be again for the upcoming academic year as well. Cakes with a Cause is a RLC (Residential LEarning Community) housed in the Living & Learning Center on Athletic Campus. We are affiliated with the Art Initiative, which means we get to do some pretty cool stuff on a lot of different levels. We work on and produce events and fundraisers within many different communities including within the Arts Initiative and Living & Learning communities, the even larger UVM community, and the even larger-than-that Burlington area community. I’m rambling and you just want me to finally explain what Cakes with a Cause is, am I right? Probably. Cakes with a Cause is rather unique in that it is a program that combines two common interests that are not usually linked -- baking and community service/involvement. While most programs usually focus on one sort of topic/interest, Cakes with a Cause is an interesting hybrid, I suppose. We create events and fundraisers that incorporate our love of baking. OFten you will see that in the form of bake sales. But there’s a lot more to it. In the past we have held bake offs, put on international baked good showcases, collaborate with various clubs and programs on campus, donate baked goods to various groups on campus for events, it goes on and on. Last year we worked with another L&L program (Animalia) to bake animal treats that we donated to local animal shelters. We held bake sales for the local Planned Parenthood, Pets Helping People, COTS, and many more. We collected donations for OXFAM during and international food/film project. We worked with many other groups and donated baked goods to their events like Dewey House and the LQBTQA Center’s annual Queer Prom. Long story short: we do cool things! And we have a lot of new and cool ideas for next year as well, including a long-term community service project as well as some healthy baking projects! That being said, APPLY NOW! We have two suites for the upcoming academic year and we are looking for some great applicants to build a really strong program next year! We will have space for FIVE upperclassmen and FOUR first-year students. We get a lot of applications, so if you’re serious, write something good! Unfortunately, space is limited and it gets competitive! The application deadline for current UVM students is MONDAY MARCH 10th! Here is the link to the application: https://uvm.edu/~prgmhsng/ If you’d like to know more about the program or about L&L and programmed housing in general, just ask! I’m a PD and an RA, so I know quite a bit about the complex and the programs. :) Looking forward to seeing some applications. Have a great spring break everyone!
