It’s time again for the annual Green Card lottery! To all who may be interested or know someone who would: The (DV) Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery or better know as Green Card Lottery 2016 will open Wednesday October 1, 2014 at noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT – 4) and applications can be submitted until noon Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5), Monday, November 3, 2014. The requirements are basic but strict and include the need to meet specific education or work experience requirements, the submission of a digital picture and nationality of a country from a limited list. Detailed in instructions to the electronic DV Entry Form are available at dvlottery.state.gov or on my website fuessel-law/green-card-lottery-2016/ 50,000 lucky winners will be chosen through a randomized computer drawing and starting beginning May 1, 2015, you will be able to check online at dvlottery.state.gov if you were selected. The Department of State does not send notifications and it is therefore extremely important that you keep a record of your confirmation number. Please note that entering the lottery is free and that it is not necessary to pay an immigration lawyer or any other service in order to apply. However, if you are selected as a “winner,” you may want to consider hiring an immigration lawyer to ensure the correct and timely submission of your paperwork.
