Ivan Katchanovski: KMIS Poll on April 10-15, 2014: A minority, 15% of the residents of the South and the East of Ukraine, including 28% in the Donetsk Region, 30% in the Luhansk Region, and 16% in the Kharkiv Region, support their region separating from Ukraine and joining Russia. 70% in the South and East, including 52% in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions and 66% in the Kharkiv Region, oppose this. The current unitary state is supported by 19% of the respondents in Southern and Eastern Ukraine, including 11% in the Donetsk Region, 12% in the Luhansk Region, and 23% in the Kharkiv Region. A unitary state with decentralization of power and greater rights of regions favor 45%, including 41% in the Donetsk Region, 34% in the Luhanks Region, and 39% in the Kharkiv Region. Given such options, 25% of the South-East back a federal system. The support is highest in in the Donetsk Region (38%), 42% in the Luhansk Region, and 32% in the Kharkiv Region. Half of the respondents in the South-East, including the absolute majority in Donbas regard the current acting president and prime minister as unlawful.
