Ive 8 friends with birthdays today, not including Jesus who was probably born in October, Christmas is more the sun god than son of Gods birthday, as we begin the slow emerge from mid winter darkness towards the light of new year. I wish everyone light amidst the darkness especially those struggling with depression, hope over adversity for the financially stressed, love over hate for the bigots and racists, peace between religions at war, an experience of empathy and humanity for politicians and bankers, indulgence without guilt for the selfless, and for us all, outrageous giving and paying it forward with random acts of kindness and generosity - Ive several friends donating their Christmases to homeless food runs or opening up their homes to the single and lonely. Whatever your faith or none, or faith in nuns, heres to happier, more inclusive families, communities, faiths, and political policies - may we remember that we all share in birth and death, it is between those two moments that we make a difference to the world now, as much as any moment in the past may have yielded us religious beliefs, philosophical deas, spiritual paths, or political ideologies to live by.
