Ive always thought it was funny that little white Debbie Harry - TopicsExpress

Ive always thought it was funny that little white Debbie Harry scored the first #1 rap song. Funny and a little unfair, sure... But I remember the first time I heard that song on the radio, driving my first car - a restored Corvair - to the Arizona State Fairgrounds. I was so overwhelmed by what I was hearing I had to pull off the road and park in front of a neighborhood house until I was calm enough to drive again! LOL. In the song, Debbie notably engages in namechecking - calling out by name fellow rappers Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash. In fact, the rap part begins: Fab Five Freddie told me everybodys fly. DJs spinning. I said in my mind: Flash is fast, Flash is cool. Francois sais pas, Flashe no deux, And you dont stop, sure shot. Tonight, I found out the final shot of Blondies video is a one-take scene of Debbie Harry dancing along the street, passing by assorted peoples rappers including Fab Five Freddy, and graffiti artists. Jean-Michel Basquiat was hired for a cameo in that scene when Grandmaster Flash did not show up for the filming! https://youtube/watch?v=pHCdS7O248g
