Ive always thought so. Mangroves are what happens when you take bog plants and turn them into tropical hurricane blockers. In defense of bogs, however, I would say that your average boreal Black Spruce bog stores as much carbon per part as a mangrove stand of comparable area. Mangroves can be found in North America in our warmer reaches, such as tropical Mexico and central Florida southward, but between cold peaks they manage to float and establish seedlings as far north as Alabama and South Carolina.
