Ive always told my children they should learn something new every - TopicsExpress

Ive always told my children they should learn something new every day, and I also try to practice what I preach, but at age 65 is it reasonable to think that I can or should learn something new every day? Of course, with my memory deteriorating, Im finding it easier to learn new things or perhaps its more a case of rediscovering things I once knew and then forgot! Today, Im happy to report, is clearly a case of learning something new (or is it?). Ever since high school chemistry class Ive understood the formula of sugar to be C6 H12 O6. Today I was looking into claims of a diet suplimend advertised to have 30% less sugars. When I looked up the definition of sugar I saw the formula was listed as C12 H22 O11. Three more sources confirmed the formula to be C12 H22 O11 so I looked up C6 H12 O6 to see what it was. Glucose, C6 H12 O6 is simply Glucose. As a diabetic I am familiar with blood glucose. I check my glucose level several times a day. There are many carbohydrates used as sweeteners which are not technically sugars but which are equally as detrimental to ones health. 30% less sugars doesnt necessarily mean less carbohydrates! The terms glucose and sugar are often used interchangeably but are not exactly the same thing. Now I have to worry about what I can learn tomorrow!
