Ive always walked away from things I thought I wasnt great at. - TopicsExpress

Ive always walked away from things I thought I wasnt great at. Good wasnt enough, I needed to be great. I walked away from basketball, magic, music several times, and martial arts. And these are things that I would spend countless hours practicing over several years in my pursuit of perfection and greatness. I dont know where I got it into my head that I needed to be great at something or there was no point. I guess it was an inner desire to be able to do something so well that I went down in the history books. I wanted to feel important. Like Jordan. Like Bruce Lee. Like David Copperfield. Like Biggie. It wasnt until recently that I realized I was missing the point: It doesnt matter how well you do something if you enjoy it. I enjoyed doing all those things, I just talked myself out of doing them. When you enjoy doing something you throw your entire self into it. And when you throw your entire self into something, you usually become somewhat good at it. And, even if youre not great at it, theres no value that can be placed on doing something you love to do. Plus, doing things doesnt make you important. A feeling of importance comes from self esteem. I guess I never really had much since I placed my value on the things I did and not the person I am. Ah, the wonderful insights you come across on a journey of self discovery. Have a great day everyone!
