Ive been DYING to make this announcement! A few months back I entered my wife Pullen for the Management Today Magazine 2014 Top 35 Businesswomen under 35 awards. A month or so later, she was delighted to be shortlisted down to the last... 60 but was sure that was as far as she’d get. Well… so she thought. 4 Weeks back she got the call to tell her she’d won one of the 35 places on the list! Given the fact there are some pretty big-hitters on the list such as the head of a mining company, house builders and credit card management, it’s a hell of an achievement and I can’t tell you how proud of her I am. Previous winners have included Stella McCartney and Elisabeth Murdoch, so it really is something to be chosen. Emma’s progression from ‘Trolley Dolly’ 8 years ago to rapidly growing a vehicle manufacturing company has been astonishing and the amount she’s learned, the high’s and low’s she’s faced – it’s been hugely emotional to be part of it with her. There’s times when we’ve stared at each other wondering what the hell we can do to save a situation, yet she always stays strong and just learns from everything that happens and yet somehow mixes it in with a family life and demanding 5 year old. I have genuinely never met anyone with her strength of character and I never forget how l lucky I am. She’s not somebody who chases these accolades, which is why I entered her for the competition. But of course, it’s also a great bit of publicity for the hovercraft industry and no doubt she’ll meet some great contacts amongst the other winners. I’m really pleased that on this occasion, she’s grabbed some well earned recognition. Of course, we weren’t allowed to say anything until the articles came out and the winners were announced – and that’s today. So there she is, in black and white in the Sunday Times, this month’s Management Today, and of course, there’s the winners party in Covent Garden on Wednesday for which she’s bought the all-important new outfit!
