Ive been a bit tardy in reflecting on my gigs on this tour, partly because we are driving from Chicago to Nova Scotia and I dont have connectivity while were travelling. We leave early, drive all day, turn up at the gig, do our soundcheck, grab some food and then I just about have time to check my emails before Im on stage. The shows in the Maritimes have so far been brilliant. The audience in Portland, Maine, was the best of the tour so far - maybe because it was the only all standing show Ive done. The crowd in Fredericton was great too, but theyd just had an election in New Brunswick the day before the gig and I didnt know whether to congratulate the Greens, who won a seat, commiserate with the NDP who didnt, lean on the victorious Liberals to deliver on their promise of a moritorium on fracking or beast the Conservatives who got kicked out of office. Last night in Charlottetown, PEI the gig was in a brewery and while the acoustics werent as good the concert halls weve been playing, the atmosphere was great and so was the crowd. Were about to set off towards Halifax, Nova Scotia, for tonights show, another long drive. We found a great little place to stop for lunch yesterday, near Cape Pele, where the people are French-speaking Arcadians. Had a lobster roll and an interesting chat with the proprietor about the aftermath of the Seven Years War (in English).
