Ive been back in Houston several days. I could feel my blood - TopicsExpress

Ive been back in Houston several days. I could feel my blood pressure rise as we drove back into town from our Colorado mountain refuge. Back in the Corridor today, there were sad dogs everywhere, scratching themselves bloody, dodging traffic, begging in parking lots. I witnessed three panhandlers fighting for turf at an intersection. The winner, a twentysomething, healthy looking woman with a rather expensive processed hairdo and physique proving shes not going hungry, was abusing a older man in a wheelchair, trying to push him away. As I drove past and scowled at her, I could see in her eyes she was on something. The city. The ugly, ugly city, full of ugly behavior. Ironically, today my step daughter alerted me to a Condè Nast publication with an article about Houston booming, with lots of glowing, flowing words about how tony, trendy, hip and beautiful it all is. Poppycock.
