Ive been digging this new pope, as influential leaders go. But this message is too extreme. Raise kids, not dogs and cats. There IS much to be said for NOT allowing our pets to let us run away from our responsibilities to the earth that bears us daily and from responsibilities to those of our own species. Our pets make us better people so we CAN turn back to the difficult work of making the world a better place. We dont need to bear children to be contributing members of a society or even a family. Plenty of engaged, wonderful people choose not to raise children. This very Catholic view will finish us from this Earth sooner than later. Im not damning anyone for having children--the number they alone choose--but only asking why we should press those who arent highly motivated to do so? Do you believe this will ever change in the church, in the face of population explosion? No flames, please. ....in the 100 years between 1900 and 2000, the worlds population quadrupled, topping six billion. The U.S. Census Bureau projects that it will exceed 10 billion by 2050 [source: World Population Information]. How on earth (LITERALLY) do we feed that many human beings?
