Ive been doing a lot of thinking lately about the state of relations between political ideologies. I dont think its healthy for any of us to continue down this road we seem to be stuck on. Id like to see it change. So lets see if we can make some headway. I really miss William F. Buckley because he made me think, and think hard. He didnt engage from a standpoint of opposition, rather from a standpoint of what made logical sense based on a genuinely held philosophical belief. Ive decided to not just pass on diatribic pieces. Thats my starting point now. Ive also decided to be critical of those bad decisions I see on the left and not simply sit quietly and let it slide. If genuine progress is really what Im after then I have to be willing to examine my own positions and those of like mind critically. Conversely I am also no longer going to just knee jerk respond to diatribic pieces from the right. Im going to just let them pass by without comment. This will be very hard to do because it makes my blood boil!! I will respond to pieces from the right that carry some real thought with them. But Im still not going to go looking for them. So if youd truly like to engage and have some real discussion Im willing to have discourse. Kind of a William F. Buckleyesque thing. Remember he had a great many friends of every political persuasion. Seems kind of strange to hear myself say that. So, any of you out there that can accept that premise? And change the way we have political discourse in this country? Dont say yes without giving this some real thought!
