Ive been doing some serious archiving lately, mostly getting the writing and related materials more organized, sifting through correspondence and early Poetry Center documents etc., mostly for myself, but some for the couple of collections that foolishly want them. Along the way, Im finding old letters and cards from friends and lovers, little treasures that mean nothing to anyone but me, old articles from various publications, and forgotten poems and fragments, some of which are surprisingly good or surprisingly bad, and some of which are almost impossible to read in that fast scrawl I use when beginning a poem, and among those occasionally a small, revealing gem like this one: Sometimes when I testify about myself, I am a hostile witness.
