Ive been feeling increasingly negative about Canada Day in recent years, but this ruling changed my outlook for our country. A lot of what has changed structurally in Canada in recent years has been shocking and disturbing, and Ive thought maybe BC would be better off separating, or that Id be happier in a different country. But this case of justice, setting precedent for situations across the country, warms my heart and gives me hope :) Im grateful to all the Tsilqotin First Nations and non-First Nations who worked toward this landmark case of justice, and was honoured to celebrate with many Haisla First Nations people and Douglas Channel Watch members in Kitimat this afternoon.
