Ive been following Ævangelist since their inception. All of their previous albums have been pure evil, and their latest, Writhes In The Murk, is no exception. The bass sounds like a bubbling pit of darkness and despair. The drums bring forth utter calamity. Though the drums are more of a slow doom/death affair this time around, there are moments where they play raging and destructive blast beats. The vocals are really diverse. One minute you hear deep, gurgling growls, the next you hear angry screams. Most surprising of all are the mournful clean vocals performed by Jon Rosenthal of Highgate. The guitars play everything from crushing chugging riffs to discordant high-pitched black metal chords to dark tremolo riffs. They then make things all the more interesting by throwing in some saxophone work and dark acoustic guitars that remind me of the Tristram theme from Diablo.
