Ive been getting into the aspects of Womens and gender studies that I always avoided while I was studying at Rutgers... the areas that make no effort to be polished off and sealed with the scientifically-based white mans seal of approval, the kind that disrupts discourse on epistemology and posits that the experiences of the marginalized are a valuable source of knowledge even if they lack objectivity. The kind that encourages us to look to folklore, poetry, spirituality, and to trust our own conscience. It might not have the most attention in a field where post-structuralism and queer theory are the dominant paradigm (and these are important areas of study, also) but it has heart and soul and I think thats extremely valuable because our communities and our planet is in need of an enormous amount of healing to break the impasse.
