Ive been given a suggestion a couple of times to read the New Living Translation Holly Bible. Yesterday I was doing some shopping in town and purchased a copy of the NLT Holly Bible. Now mind you Ive read & studied the King James Version my entire life. So now I have the NLT Bible and I turned to Matthew 21,12-17, the heading says, Jesus Clears the Temple, yeap he sure did but in the NLT version it seems to suggest that Jesus was upset by the buying and selling of animals for sacrifice. To me this wasnt the reason Jesus was upset for animal sacrifices were part of Jewish Custom establish under Moses Law. To me, Jesus was upset with the Religious Leaders and Money Lenders using GODs House to steal money from Gods Children. Yes I said steal, for history has shown that the Money Lenders (Bankers) conspired with Religious Leaders of the day. They forced the People to use coin to pay their taxes. How could this be stealing you might ask? Easy! Before the coin requirement, barter was the method of paying taxes. A Farmer would take a portion of their livestock and present it to the Temple as payment. So lets say a Farmer went to the market to sell 4 Chickens and each one was worth 5 dollars, he gained 20 dollars or the equivalent in trade/credit. The Farmer gets a tax bill for 20 dollars, so the Farmer takes his 4 chickens to the Temple to pay his tax. The Religious Leaders wont accept the 4 Chickens and force the Farmer to seek coins for the Chickens by walking over to the moneylenders tables inside the Temple. The moneylenders though only give the farmer 15 dollars in coin for the chickens, so he must borrow the extra money at interest, meaning the next day he brings two more chickens to the moneylenders to pay off his debt. The CUT IN THE ACTION is shared between the religious leaders and the moneylenders. While the Farmer has used 6 chickens to pay his taxes instead of 4. To me this is why Jesus became violent inside the Temple, this is why he chased the money lenders from the Temple telling them the Temple was for prayer while the money lenders turned it into a den of thieves. To me this story is a very important lesson and yet the NLT doesnt seem to share my beliefs. Am I missing something?
