Ive been given several numbers and havent yet lived up to my part of the bargain, so Ill split the difference and go with 9... 1) Even though several of my close friends joined the military soon after high school, I swore that I would NEVER join. Ive now been serving for a little over 20 years and I dread the day I no longer wear the uniform. 2) I tried 3 times to join before the Air Force finally took me. 3) A friend and I once tried to row a borrowed dinghy across Santa Rosa Sound, using a couple of 2 x 4s as paddles. About halfway across, and drifting quickly with the current, one of us (still not sure which) tried to stand up to take a leak, flipped the boat, and we had to swim ashore. We finally made it to someones dock and they asked us politely, while holding a shotgun, to leave. 4) Im both a Conservative AND an NPR fan/supporter. 5) I knocked a radio station (98 SURF) completely off the air for several hours by shorting the power cord from an amplifier directly to the frame of the chair I was sitting in. (BONUS factiod: I also once knocked out all the non-tactical power to the radar hangar at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait while I was trying to fix Sheila Leach Wesleys iron.) 6) I once had to be smuggled into Honduras, hiding first in the bathroom of a TACA Airlines plane and then being snuck into town on the crew bus. 7) I once sold a Honda Shadow 1100 and a Z-50 mini-bike to Anna Nicole Smith. 8) On 1 April 1997, TSgt Eugene Byrd and I were waiting for a flight out of Howard AB in Panama. We were booked on a C-130 headed for Honduras, but we were bumped at the last minute. That plane crashed in Tegucigalpa and we lost 3 AF brothers. 9) Because I now have kids, Ive left out the most interesting parts of each item above.
