Ive been hearing a lot about the oil trains lately but havent really been tuned into the issue at all. I started doing some research and found this video on youtube. Definitely worth watching. I agree that the local jobs are important, but I dont think it is worth it to risk the safety of our communities or our beautiful landscapes. Its not that this is a minor issue that has had isolated incidents, trains keep derailing. With this many oil trains out there, basic statistics state that it isnt IF a train will derail, but WHEN and WHERE it will derail. They plan to have 250 oil trains a year coming down the Cuesta Grade .. through Cal Poly, through SLO, and behind my house (I can hear the conductors announcements from bed). In the worst case scenario, an oil train derailment could have devastating impacts to our communities, environment, and economy.
