Ive been home for just over a day and a half now and Im still trying to process the entirety of this last weekend. While Im REALLY missing a whole bunch of people, my heart is full to overflowing! Ill do my best to help let you in on just how truly special this shave weekend turned out to be. On Friday July 25th, I flew out to Boston! A day I had looked forward to since learning the 2014 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave/St. Baldricks Foundation Event would be there; but also a day Id been looking forward to for nearly 6 YEARS at the same time. Almost 6 years ago (in 2008), I learned of a young Warrior boy named Cameron! His beauty, grace and joy for life made me smile; the battle hed been facing made me angry!! Yet, even through it all, Cameron carried himself in such a regal way and his Papa Henry-Cameron Allen showed me that the apple honestly didnt fall too far from the tree!! We, Henry and I, forged a friendship - a bond that has only grown stronger over the years! In 2010, our inaugural Event for the 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave with the St. Baldricks Foundation, I shaved my head in honor & memory of Cameron - he became my very first honored child!!! On Friday, I finally had the honor & privilege of not only meeting Camerons Papa Henry, Henrys bestie Tomi Sousa & their friend Paul, but enjoying an amazing concert as his guest while listening to the smooth soothing sounds of Henry Allen & the New Swingset!! Yall are wicked awesome!! That first hug will forever be remembered!!! The time spent with you & in the sacred realm of Camerons room - truly cherished!!! However that day was just the beginning of the weekend to come!!! (Oh and sorry to keep you up talking for over half the night Saturday July 26th, after spending the day out & about in Glosta, meeting people (yes, Schmoopie, that would be you and several others :) ) talking about why I was there, where I came from and even telling of my own journey through Childhood cancer! This was followed up by an urgent plea for help to get me to the Mommas meeting and a scrumptious wicked awesome dinner of Lobstah & kale!! Henry, my big brotha, your cooking by the way is outta this world!! MMMMMHMMMM! While I was eating my dinner, my plea was answered and when my rescuers arrived, I got to hug Momma CeeJay MommaBear West again & the pleasure of meeting Momma Megan Keiser Dermody for the first time!! Big hugs and big love and THIS is where the connections began!! :) :) :) The Momma meeting was great...the hugs, love and energy are always nothing short of amazing!! I spent the night in town as I needed to be close so I could arrive early enough in the day for everything I needed to be there for in the morning. Sunday July 27th SHAVE DAY!!! Where to begin...how to begin...love, love and more LOVE! Not only did I get to see some of the most amazing Mommas & family again between Saturday night & Shave Day (Dari McManus, Brandy Turner, Angela Santorelli Bartol, Christie Joy Chiasson, Audra Shaveforthebrave Wilford, Alyson Rich Weissman, Susan Heard, David Kulikowski & family, Dorothy Kulikowski (& Ed), Kris Doyle aka #MacJacker, Yvette Velez Rivera, our celebrity barber Angeline-Rose Troy and so many others), I got to meet some more amazingness (Claudette Leo, Cindy Zimba Campbell, April L Smith ~Bradys Mission, Evelyn Wilson, Phyllis Sommer ~one of the 36Rabbis Shave for the Brave and Momma to Superman Sam~, our celebrity barber JD Scott and many, many others.) I also got to meet Dwayne ModedSpec; again, thank you for what you do and that gift is priceless, my friend!! As if that wasnt enough on the excitement meter, I shaved in honor & memory of AJ!! AJs Dad Bob Piniewski & AJ got me back on track in hot pursuit of putting Childhood cancer in check permanently!! If it hadnt been for the People Against Childhood Cancer (PAC2) and my becoming a part of it in August 2008, my voice wouldnt be nearly as big because AJ & AJs Dad Bob gave me a much needed platform where I could get my voice out!! To make this day even more exciting, Camerons Papa Henry shaved my head and to make my heart go well beyond the bounds of overflowing, I was given the honor of shaving Henrys head!! To some, this may not be all that special; but to me, this became one of the most amazing highlights ever as Henrys head is the FIRST I have EVER had the honor of shaving!! My cup runneth over, a moment of sacredness shared, FULL CIRCLE - having shaved in honor & memory of Cameron in my 1st Shave in 2010 as a 46 Momma to having Camerons Papa Henry shave my head and then my shaving Henrys head...truly there arent enough words for just how special that was & will forever be!!
