Ive been interviewing people here in Aguacatan who have migrated to the US and am meeting many families who live here without their husbands and brothers who are north working....the stories I am hearing are devastating-many instances of abuse and discrimination in jobs in the US..i continuously hear that the desert at the border is deadly...several people here have dissapeared there in Arizona or Texas. Yet people here find themselves with no work opportunities and debt from sickness or buying fertalizer for their cornfields and tell me they have no option but to leave town in search of work even if it means riskng theirlives crossing the border. But many are also so gratefull for their experiencesin the US, and amazed at the support from the government and the way society functions and the work opportunities.
