Ive been pretty hesitant to post pictures of my arm on social media, but since Ive been venturing out without covering it and its getting too big to cover anyway, I thought Id go ahead and share what it now looks like. A few weeks ago, I had a tissue expander placed in my arm. The purpose of it is to create enough new skin to cover the scarred area where I was degloved in my accident. Each week, I go to the doctor where they stretch my arm a little bit more. By the time it is done, it will be 5-6 times the size it is now. That will take several months, depending on how my body tolerates the expansion. Eventually, probably sometime between January - March, we will head back into surgery to do skin grafting and release the tendons in the back of my hand which will give me more movement in my fingers and my wrist. I cant wait for that day!! Then Ill get to start reteaching myself things like writing, playing the violin, cooking, etc. That day is a long way away, but Im looking forward to it with great hope. Although I have been blessed beyond measure throughout this ordeal, this has been the longest 6 months of my life and Im afraid the next 6 months are going to be just as difficult.
