Ive been purchasing, installing, setting up, configuring, and securing a large number of new software applications for Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional with the Media Center Pack 64 bit desktop operating system over the past couple of days. I make regular backups using CrashPlan+ and Acronis True Image 2014 Premium on a regular basis. Right now, things are running optimally and it took many long hours and lots of research and hard work to get a good installation that is solid and functional. I expect to continue to do the same over the next two years before I purchase a newer notebook PC with the latest version of Microsoft Windows 64 bit. I dont plan to purchase a newer System76 or GNU/Linux certified notebook PC in the future because these smaller scale PC vendors dont have the advantage of leveraging the economies of scale to pass on the savings directly to their customers compared to large companies like Dell, Hewlett Packard, ASUS, etc. I find that Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional with the Media Center Pack 64 bit to be a more capable and functional desktop operating system than Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit GNU/Linux. Most of my research and efforts is dependent upon this version of Microsoft Windows. I do mathematical lessons, research, calculations using Mathworks Matlab R2013B and Wolfram Alphas Mathematica 9 64 bit along with some free Khan Academy mathematical online lessons and Coursera college level online courses. I also work with Microsoft Office 2013 Home Premium 64 bit documents regularly since Libreoffice still has some glaring deficiencies with handling closed source proprietary Microsoft Office file formats. I have more than 250+ Valve Corporation Steam for PC games in my account and library and almost all of them require Microsoft Windows 7 or 8/8.1 64 bit. Only 90 or so of my Steam PC games are compatible with Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS 64 bit GNU/Linux or more recent versions. A lot of closed source proprietary software applications require Microsoft Windows 7 or 8/8.1 64 bit and Ive purchased dozens of software applications to meet highly specialized needs based on their features and functions. Most of my purchased software applications are related to information assurance in order for me to lock down and harden Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional with the Media Center Pack 64 bit. Id say its not as secure as Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit GNU/Linux, but its pretty close. I plan to purchase a newer notebook PC with the latest version of Microsoft Windows Professional 64 bit pre-installed by April 17th, 2016 which will be my 39th birthday. I need to stay up to date with cutting edge PC hardware and software applications based upon my digital work flow requirements. I tend to read IT periodicals frequently to gain knowledge about the latest innovations in the consumer desktop industry to stay up to date. Otherwise, my Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P notebook PC is almost perfect for my needs and budget. My best friend bought it for me for $1,208.03 USD which is heavily discounted off its $1,600.00 USD MSRP. My next short term goal is to continue my research and purchases of specialized Microsoft Windows software applications. Id like to research and purchase Ahead Neros Platinum 2014 Suite so that I have an advanced optical disc and multimedia software application. I have an ASUS BW-12D1S-U USB 3.0 Blu-Ray optical burner drive and plenty of blank CD-R, DVD-R single layer, and Blu-Ray single layer discs. Okay, thats it for now. Bye.
