Ive been reading a lot of complaints lately that Stansbury residents have been voicing about issues going on in our county that affect them. They are all valid concerns. With the exception of the prison issue, most of these topics seem to be hot button issues being decided on a county/local level. That got me thinking, and Im not the only person who has brought this up before, but I guess Im confused why, over all of the years that Stansbury Park has been established, that we havent had any political representation on the County Commission, County School Boards, County Planning Commissions, etc? We get all upset when others outside of our community start making decisions that affect us and our families without our input, but what are we doing to proactively engage citizens of Stansbury Park to get involved in the political process (specifically finding people to run for office) and to help shape change that benefits our community? I think its a discussion we should be having about the future of Stansbury Park that extends beyond ideas of incorporation. What can we do to motivate people in our community to become involved in the political process and help elect people who can shape our future and the future of our children? Even if we take the leap to incorporate, decisions will be made by our county commissioners in the future that will impact our community, and I for one would love to see some representation on that commission from Stansbury Park (personally I think the commission should be changed to a 5 member commission with equal representation from each major community, Tooele, Stansbury Park, Grantsville, and two at large positions.) Im interested to hear peoples constructive ideas on how we can find, promote, and elect people from Stansbury Park to ensure that we have a voice in the future of our county and community.
