Ive been reading about oodles of Steinbeck stuff happening this year, including: 2014 Steinbeck Festival Onward: A Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of The Grapes of Wrath and Steinbeck’s 1937 play, which he adapted, with George S. Kaufman, from his novel Of Mice and Men ... in its first Broadway revival in forty years. But for my stay-at-home self ... getting reacquainted with my favorite Steinbeck characters : using my books and audio CDs for Cannery Row and sequel Sweet Thursday ... both best read by Jerry Farden on Penguin Audio; and using the 1992 film Of Mice and Men (probably from public library or video vendor or streaming media) Lennie is played by John Malkovich and George by Gary Sinise, who also directed this film, using an adaptation by Horton Foote ... The story is as pure and lean as the original fable which formed in Steinbecks mind. And because they dont try to do anything fancy -- dont try to make it anything other than exactly what it is -- they have a quiet triumph. rogerebert/reviews/of-mice-and-men-1992
