Ive been reading the craziest stories and comments about the fire at Lakeview Pavillion yesterday that happened during a wedding Chris Saraiva was DJing so Im going to clear things up best I can. Chris has been contacted by all kinds of media (local and national) but he hasnt responded to anyone because he feels its the venues place and the bride & grooms to release a statement and hes keeping their identity private. The ceremony had just ended in the main function room and the couple and all their guests were heading out to a separate cocktail room which is by the main exit doors. During this transition Chris and several staff members smelled smoke. A staff member headed to a back room which is a bridal suite and saw flames and smoke in a wall and shouted that there was a fire. Chris searched for a fire extinguisher and got one, and staff members tried with pitchers of water to put it out but it was too late and to far up the walls. Chris called his dad who was in the parking lot waiting to help Chris with flipping his equipment from his ceremony setup to a reception set up and told him to help grab his gear before the fire got worse. At the point fire detectors had gone off already and everyone was leaving building. On adrenaline, Chris managed to grab some of his gear and hand it to his dad at a back loading door. He admitted he probably shouldnt have done the last run in because there was too much smoke. Some gear was lost, but everyone got out safe which is what matters. Of course everyone watched from a distance as the fire spread and eventually left a couple hours after it all started as the fire department continued to try to get it under control. The building a total loss and nothing remains today. Its been reported that a careless smoker threw a cigarette into mulch which caused the siding in the back of the building to catch on fire. (Chris is not a smoker) The bride and groom who was staying at a local hotel arrived so distraught of course so the management there managed put their first song on an iPod speaker on an outside deck so they could dance to it......the end. Chris is a fully insured professional in this business who will deal with his own losses tomorrow. The venue is set to release a statement in the next day or so as so many bride and grooms are now scrambling and the bride and groom have asked for privacy. So lets move on and stop making up crazy stories. Hopefully this bride and groom will get to celebrate as they should have eventually. Thank you to everyone who called, messaged and reached out to us, we have really remarkable family, friends and colleagues and appreciate you all.
