Ive been really disappointed by how many people are defending Vahid Brown, or think he was outed in the wrong way, or dont think theres anything wrong with training the police/FBI to be more sensitive or whatever. This essay deals with a really similar situation in the UK, and I highly recommend it. Especially significant is its examination of academia in enabling the police to develop more sophisticated means of repression (such as soft policing), and the but hes a nice guy! phenomenon.
