Ive been reflecting lately on the nature of womanhood. And I still dont know what it is; I suspect its one of the greater mysteries of the universe. But I have noticed one thing: women have this tendency, for good or ill, to open their hearts up to love and to suffering. We work ourselves half to death with one days work, and then wake up after four hours of sleep and do the whole thing over. We love people whom we know will never be able to appreciate it. We let ourselves get hurt ..... too much. We spend our lives sacrificing for people who will probably never realize what we did for them. We love and lose and open ourselves up to love again. We let our bodies be brutalized with work and birth and dishwater and we dont think its too much to give. If youre a woman and do some or all of this .... happy mothers day, this day is for you.
