Ive been researching how Google tracks our information and serves relevant ads via cookies. I can see why some people dont like this. On sites carrying AdSense, Google sets a DoubleClick cookie called _drt_. If you are logged in to Google it will contain an encrypted version of your Google ID. From this ID Google knows your search history and perhaps your browsing history too. This is partly how it magically senses what you are interested in and shows you such relevant ads. Now I understand the rules, Ive tagged Storynory with Google for Child-Directed Treatment and it has already set the offending cookie to NO_DATA. Our rates have fallen quite sharply already, which could be a serious problem. Well see how it settles down. We have to comply with AdSenses rules. They frequently ban people who dont. The thing is - kids are not supposed to have a Google Account. If their parents let them sign up for one, surely that is their decision? So what these regulations do is hurt us - who are trying to give families a free service - but as far as I can see, dont protect children. Oh well....
