Ive been revisiting some of my earliest musical influences and some of the New Wave school keep popping into my head. Theres something about lyrics that deal with cynicism and darker subject matter wrapped in a blanket of catchy hooks and melodies that always worked for me as a musical recipe. To that end, the bands Squeeze, Split Enz (even in their weirder phases)/Crowded House, Madness, Oingo Boingo (their earliest stuff), Elvis Costello, and XTC keep rearing their heads on my playlists this week. These bands never got the airplay they should have here in The States, so heres a little musical joy for all of you. I could post all day, but just a little taste. Some of these are timeless...
