Ive been thinking. I care about this because I am jewish and my grandparents were in the holocaust, but what about everyone else? Yarmouk - a palestinian refugee camp where 160,000 Palestinians were recently displaced from, starvation kills 1 in 3, and civilians are routinely murdered. Do you need to know if this refugee camp is in Syria or Gaza before expressing moral outrage? Or the Palestinian refugee camp Jarabulus where civilians are killed in disproportionate show of force? If I went solely based on social media, facebook, and intl media coverage, I would think the Israel-Gaza conflict is the only noteworthy conflict going on? Just a refresher, death tolls on current conflicts: Syria - ~170,000 Mexico - 80,000 Nigeria - 5,000 Sudan - 10,000 Protective edge Israel - Gaza- >1700 (although the exact number of militant/civilians is currently unknown, all figures are from data released by Hamas run agencies in Gaza) I am not saying you judge your moral outrage by deathtolls, just because more Nazis soldiers died in WW2 than American soldiers, does that mean America is in the wrong and should be criticized? (based on posts on the use of disproportionate force and death tolls in Israel Gaza, some would have to argue this). morality and war is not based solely on death counts. Furthermore the bias is completely anti-Israel. How many protests have I seen where they are burning Egyptian flags? How many facebook posts espouse outrage at Egypt? Egypt has its borders with Gaza closed and is contributing to their plight. ISIS is currently controlling large parts of Syria and Iraq and has been beheading christians and parading their heads around on stakes. they have killed thousands of civilians and Russia is fighting a proxy war in East Ukraine. I would love to see a graphic displaying the % of facebook/twitter posts related to Israel/Gaza versus all other conflicts. So maybe someone can better explain to me why we chose to focus on this conflict, particularly condemnation of Israel. Let me be very frank, Israel is responsible for Israeli citizens and their well being, not the wellbeing of the Palestinian people. Hamas was elected as the government in Gaza, they are responsible for the well being of Palestinian people.
