Ive been thinking a lot about the situation at General Theological Seminary (an Episcopal seminary in New York where 8 faculty either resigned or were fired - depending on your point of view). There are definite immediate reasons - the presidents inappropriate behavior and the boards unwillingness to address it. And there are deeper issues relating to nationwide changes in higher education. But thrown into all this mix has to be the high tension in mainline denominations over the liberal vs conservative war. Even if the faculty and administration didnt split exclusively according to these camps, it is the ocean in which the church swims these days - and the polluted water this war has created spoils all kinds of things.
