Ive been thinking about this a lot today...I think the current attitude could be labelled The Age of the Intentionally Uninformed. I personally have no idea where my clothes were made, where half of the ingredients in what I eat come from, or even what they are. Everything has become convoluted and increasingly difficult to answer, but these answers are out there, we just dont look for them. On top of that, society has a tendency to write people off who DO care about these things as zealots or nut jobs. What it results in is next to zero accountability for the moral leanings of the sources of our clothes, our food, and our energy. And if something is found out to be morally bankrupt, cries of I didnt know children/underpaid workers/migrants/animals were being exploited! are enough to justify it, and we move on. I just find the whole system backward. This isnt an invitation for people to grandstand on the fact that they are conscious about these things, but I would be interested to hear what people think about increasing transparency for consumers in the origin of products.
