Ive been thinking of changing my SCA persona from Early Greek to Early Teutonic. Ive toyed with the idea for a long time. Ive event started wearing a great helm I built. Ive also been thinking lately of fighting sword and shield style in the SCA again. Its been awhile and I have probably lost alot of my skill in that area. But I want to try. I want to put some work in the shield too. I want my Arms on the front so that I can easily find it and so that it will be aesthetically pleasing and not look like a hunk of aluminum. Im also wanting to list the knightly virtues or code of chivalry on the back. Not necessarily because I need to be reminded of them, but I think it would be a good idea to help remind others of what we strive for in the SCA. The problem is that here was not an official Knights Code of Chivalry as such. It didnt really exist back then a written code so much as it was later on. It was a moral system which went beyond rules of combat and introduced the concept of Chivalrous conduct. Qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women to name a few. I know I have my favorites and you probably have yours. So my question is what virtues would you list on your shield? I know that Loyalty, Virtue, and Gallantry toward women are among my top picks. What is important to you? What would you put on your shield to remind you of the path you strive to follow? What would you put there to remind others?
