Ive been to Chincoteague, Virginia several times - to enjoy a weeks vacation and see the famous Pony Swim. The Wildlife Refuge and Lighthouse on neighboring Assateague Island offer a pleasant way to pass a few hours. Im told the beaches and ocean water are beautiful but as Ive said before, I dont do beaches. There is also a wonderful Christmas store called The Brant (or Brandt - I cant remember which spelling is correct) which is nothing short of paradise. But the one thing that comes to mind first when I think of Chincoteague is the mosquitos. They are ubiquitous and seemingly as large as dragonflies. As I remember, though, there was one week when the mosquitos were almost non-existent. An older gentleman on the beach at Assateague told my wife why there was a noticeable absence of the annoying bloodsuckers. I added something more to the conversation. Generations Old man on the beach, Assateague, Virginia, tells me why there are no mosquitos this year. They spray with a bi-plane. Flew one years ago... not around here, though. Looks away. No rain helps.
