Ive been trying to figure out the ideas behind specific bands for years. Today Ill talk about one of my favorite bands, Tool. Its my belief that the lead singer of tool/apc/puscifer has come in contact with many people in his life that play instruments. How these various artists play their instruments strike chords with what he feels internally and in so doing, brings forth certain memories and experiences that he then expresses artistically. (evident through what Ive read about/by the band members and watching several interviews) Through several years the emotions and memories presented to him through the music are analyzed thoroughly and then recorded through his lyrics which then allows him to open up by reenacting them as a kind of (intentional or unintentional) therapy. Much like those who play the drums or the guitar. Theyre consciously or subconsciously playing out their inner thoughts and emotions. Maynard puts them into a more literal context through heavy self analysis which then creates metaphorical lyrics that others can experience, allowing them to realize certain similarly related events of their own. The result is (by opinion) one of the greatest bands of all time with pure emphasis aimed towards self analysis, experimentation and enlightenment. Knowing oneself and others has never been so readily interactive and sound has never been so anthropomorphic. The music, condensed to a single cohesive entity inheriting a consciousness conjoined by four different vantages: the drummer, the guitarist, the bassist, the singer.
