Ive been trying to read more. Ive got a ton of books that I never finished or got around to reading. It was easier to complete books when I had a deadline for classes, but I think making a habit of it and being able to pick what I want will serve me better. I want to keep track of what Ive read in the past and try to consume as much as I can. In Stephen Kings autobiography he said, If you dont have time to read, you dont have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that. He gave an example of a large list of books hed read over a year or 2. Louis Lamour had a similar list of hundreds of books over a few years in his autobiography. My main problem is memory from plots Ive read, but Im hoping that my speed will improve, Ill strike upon new ideas and the wording of my writing will improve. Awhile back I had started A Clockwork Orange, but it aggravated me partway through. I knocked out the last of it yesterday. I read an analysis of Burgesss book, The Wanting Seed, and want a copy of it now. It sounds oddly prophetic in some ways. I got back to The Game by Neil Strauss tonight, that I had set down a couple years ago and think I can finish it tomorrow. Some other books that I want to knock out soon include A Man Named Intrepid about Ian Fleming who wrote James Bond, Fight Club, 1984, Language Lessons Vol. 1, Slash, Keith Richards Life, The Autobiography of Stalin (fiction) and From A Buick 8. I specifically want a broad range of eclectic authors to reference. While reading through a lot of my short stories I realized that a lot of the best of them were written during a brief time frame and I think the only good way to replicate that long-term is through extensive reading and writing even when ideas dont present themselves properly at first. Many times Ive felt I needed to wait for inspiration, but that is not the best way to professionally write. After getting more fresh books under my belt as a daily pattern I want to strive to write a specific amount daily. I had a good pattern going like that for poetry earlier this summer, but I want to switch gears into my book and short stories.
