Ive been wanting to post a few thoughts since this page was created, but have not quite been able to do so until now. All week I have been trying to make sense of what happened… but it just doesn’t make sense. I’ve known Cary for over 5 years. She was my manager at VMware for the first few years before she went part time to spend more time with her boys. After she moved onto a new role, we stayed close. My early memory of Cary is when she interviewed me and I remember thinking that I didn’t get the job because she literally talked the entire time and only asked me one question! I’ve been fortunate and blessed to have met her so early in my career and have her as my mentor. From the day I started working for her, we just connected. She was sweet, fun, extremely beautiful, confident, successful and loving person. She really cared about every individual on her team. She would do special things that were above and beyond her duty as our manager. For instance, she would send us notes on Birthday’s and Holidays such as Christmas or New Year’s just wishing us the best and to take the time out to be with our families. Anytime we were all traveling to the same event/meeting, she would send us a note telling us to have safe travels. She cared about things that we were doing outside of work. I remember when I first started the process to become a Court Appointed Child Advocate Volunteer. I was on a call with her and I was telling her about long process I had to go through, one of which was getting five recommendations where they would need to fill out whole bunch of paperwork. Without even letting me finish the sentence, she told me to send the paperwork work to her and she would submit it the same day. I have many memories and I am grateful to have had Cary in my life. Dylan, Brody, she shared with us so many pictures of you both over the years. And when we would meet in person she would have a story to tell us. Any time she was able to get an early flight home or take the red eye back, she wouldn’t miss that opportunity. I remember once asking her why do you do that to yourself (take the red eye flight) and her response was “I want to be there for my family when they wake up in the morning”. You guys were her rock and her most cherished accomplishment. Ive compiled a few lessons that I learned from your mommy that youll find useful: 1. Family/Friends matters more than anything in this world 2. You can’t accomplish everything at once. Pick three things that you want to do (at work or in your personal life) and do them well 3. Be patient -- dont worry about the things you can’t control 4. Never settle for anything and pursue what you want in life 5. Live life to the fullest. Make sure you are happy and laugh along the way RIP Cary. You made an impression on my life and career and for that I thank you.
