Ive been wanting to watch the movie Snake Eyes with Cage, for a long while, there was something about the opening scene I loved, but couldnt quite put my finger on it. It was unique that is all I remembered. Finally received it from Netflix. Its a subtle, but unmistakeable camera technique, and the simple use of it, for me anyways, adds an extra layer of semi creepy or unsettling feeling. Its a single camera shot for 20 minutes. No cuts, break aways, or fillers. The camera follows one main character, all over the place. I think we have become so use to having camera cuts every 5 or ten seconds, that this style of shooting makes it feel like something crazy is about to happen at any second. Its uncomfortably AWESOME! And of course I will be looking for it all the time now. I read some stuff about it online, finding that Alfred Hitchcock apparently made an entire film without a single cut. That could potentially make people in todays viewing audience get up and walk out of the theater!
