Ive been working on, talking about and fighting this issue for over ten years. The current Tea Party began based on the original Boston Tea Party that lead to the American Revolution where Americans told the British, no taxation without representation!! Likewise in a county where blacks make up 46% and then 63% of the City of Memphis, the rallying cry should be no taxation without PARTICIPATION!!! Although blacks pay their share of taxes to fund local and state government there is dismal to no business participation for black businesses with those entities not to mention private sector. As Ive said many times this is economic apartheid and any one calling themselves a leader in this community better have a plan to change this. Black businesses consistently do 35-38% in Atlanta. I appreciate Wendi C. Thomas putting it down on this piece and shinning this light. I promise we will make sure this conversation continues into action, Karanja A. Ajanaku, Tri-State Defender. Timeout for this foolishness, this has nothing to do with qualifications its simply systemic and inherent racism/discrimination that so far no one has had the balls or vision to challenge or change or have been thwarted, beat down or taken out when they have.
