Ive collected my old mate Jasper The Dog from the vets, hes had his operation and apart from being a bit groggy hes ok. Ive got three tough days ahead because hes not to have anything more than a walk around the garden, so no trips to the Burrs and hes wearing one of those crazy collars and with his big neck and short legs .. well lets just say its going to be tricky, well manage though. Im just happy to have him back. The vet explained a bit better tonight what had happened to him and how it was treated, so as best I can Ill try to tell you what he said. Jasper the Dog had whats called a ear hematoma, medically known as aural hematomas (think Ive spelt that correctly) this apparently is a collection of blood and fluid between the skin and cartilage of the ear. A blood vessel in the ear ruptures and the loose space under the skin will fill up with blood. The pressure from the ruptured vessel will often cause the entire surface of the ear to swell creating a very painful condition. He said these hematomas will occur very quickly, often within minutes of the vessel being ruptured. Which all fits with what happened to his lordship. He also said its extremely painful for the dog and if not dealt with could have left his ear permanently disfigured. He also said hes a lucky lad I spotted it and took him straight down. Im just glad were hes concerned I always panic and take him to the vets when anything doesnt look 100% right. Bit of TLC over the coming days and well be back down the Burrs before you know it.. Again a massive thank you to all for the good wishes and concern. x Did I film him with his huge collar on.... well of course I did! Ill post it shortly.
