Ive collected several pulp magazine cardboard display signs over - TopicsExpress

Ive collected several pulp magazine cardboard display signs over the years, and nearly every publisher offered them to newsstands. In the 1920s, however, the Clayton magazines also offered newsdealers a felt change pad. The dealer could put it on the counter next to his cash register and count a customers change out on it, with the idea being that seeing their change on a pad advertising the Clayton magazines would tempt the customer into spending that change on one of the magazines. I dont know if other publishers did this as well. Ive seen these Clayton change pads mentioned in issues of The American News Trade Journal, but had never seen one in person before today. But thanks to the efforts of my friend Dwight Fuhro, who knew where one was located, Im now the very happy owner of the one Im showing here. Its likely from the period between October 1926 (which is the date of the first issue of Clues, which was the last to debut of the five titles mentioned on the pad) and November 1927 (Danger Trail stopped using the subtitle shown here after the November 1927 issue).
