Ive come across some strange fishing events in my days. Catching a fish on a gummi bear as a kid to the double rainbow two weeks ago. I guess if you fish enough you might just come across everything. Today I checked off another bizarre instance that I didnt even know was one the list. As the family was floating around the dock at Lake Keowee today my wife spotted something in the water. Little periscope is what she said she saw. ??? Snake lifting its head out of the water? A stick bobbing in the wake waves? I began looking ans also saw something rise up to the surface and then sink away. In fact I watched it do that a dozen times. Slowly sink out of sight the moments later slowly rise back to the surface. Bizarre indeed. I stood up on the boat and watched it some more. it was a very strange thing happening. as it got closer it looked like a miniature fishing pole with guides but there was no reel. At this point snake was ruled out and I felt it safe to dive in after it. I swam over and grabbed the small foam handle and turned for shore. It resisted. I felt mono running through the guides and pulled up the lower end to retrieve a green spinning reel. I reattached it to the reel seat and staaryed my swim ro share again. More resistance. I held the rod above the waterline and felt I slow tug.on the line. Bizarre. I got to where I could stand and begin cranking on the reel. The little rod was wicked bouncing. It was a ice fishing rod about 18 long and it was dancing. I kept reeling. I caught my first carp ever. My oldest daughter jumped in with my to go all crikey in the controlled capture and care of the carp. I broke off the hook point and backed out the shaft from the fleshy lip. The fish was tired but healthy. Madi held him a moment and the fish swam off with zest. We saved another fish. Earned an ice fishing rod in good shape. My favorite paart, created another fishing memory that will last. Madison.
