Ive decided to try and identify some of the many lichens that I see on the rocks around Ballymacormick Point. This is is a great time of year for this as I wait for the flowers to return in the Spring. What Ive found is that the more you look the more you see. Lichens really are stunning and otherworldly. My main problem is going to be to try and locate the same rocky outcrops again and again until Ive finished with them. Anyway enough of my ramblings. Heres my first rocky outcrop, which is smothered with several species of lichens. Species: possibly Lecanora gangaleoides Type: Crustose Substrate: Rock Location: Ballymacormick Point (North Down) area characterised by Greywacke (a variety of Sandstone) and Shale. Date: 16/01/15. Please feel free to correct or confirm.
