Ive done a lot of things as jobs. Planted pine trees, sold clothes, sold metal Social Security cards, mowed lawns, pumped gas, fixed flats, washed cars, painted stripes on Alabama roads, poured concrete, painted, cut logs, and some less prestigious jobs. My first real job, however, was at the Crisis Center of Jefferson County. I was the Telephone Counseling Program Coordinator. Id have to find my resume` to check the dates, but it was sometime in the....well, a long time ago. Finding and training volunteer counselors was the easier part. Coordinating them to work shifts to cover the phones 24/7 was a bit more difficult, especially this time of the year. In a gesture of good will, however, our Jewish friends always helped me out over the Christmas holiday. They volunteered to take the least popular shifts on Christmas eve and Christmas day. I appreciated them for that and still think fondly on those volunteers who had to deal with some unpleasant situations during that time.
