Ive done got mad! I mean flat-foot stompin, door knockin down, butt-kickin MAD!!! Ive just about had enough and Im climbing up on my soap box. Dadburn it, somebodys got to do it! In my lifetime I have continually watched morals, manners, and decency go downhill. Today it really hit me in the face. I heard from a lady that I have known all of my life. She is gray, and in her eighties now, but still as classy as ever. She has a problem that shouldnt have to be. This woman was married for over forty years until her husband passed away some time ago. She has fallen in love with a man that also out-lasted a spouse of more than forty years. These two people are in love! THEY WANT TO GET MARRIED, but they cant. You see, they were raised in a different time when that is what you did. You didnt just live together. You went all in and put rings on each others fingers. I still believe in that myself. Now, I know somebody will want to crawl me, point out my sins, and call me an old fuddy~duddy. But that is my honest opinion, and the way I feel about it. Anyway, this couple, much in love and desiring to be married, have to settle for living together because of our countrys restrictive tax standards. If they get married, they will lose a lot of income because she draws off her late husbands retirement, and because of the extra tax on married folks. Now, yall, this is just plain WRONG!!! I love America with all of my heart, but this is one rule that we simply have wrong. It needs to be changed. This is an election year. All the politicians are running around discussing the issues. Just who are they to decide what the issues are? I wish that I could choose the issues that interest me, have them all in a room for debate and say, Go at it. WHY doesnt at least one of these political candidates stand up and say, If elected, I will push for better tax laws so that old folks can get married without suffering a penalty, and wont have to live in sin! I tell you, I might just have to run for president again. Yall remember that I ran last time as an independent, write-in candidate. My mama, sister, me, and three others voted for me. Im thinking that with all this voter apathy, maybe I will get twenty votes next time, and if no one else votes, maybe that will be enough to win. I guarandangtee you there are some things I would love to change.
