Ive fallen into pride and cannot see the way out. My spotlight has burned out so that now I see the audience that I had believed I had enthralled consisted of only One. What I saw on His face was not the rapture I thought I had charmed the audience into, but disappointment. Then I remembered- He was the Star, and I was merely a stage hand. I thought I knew the lines, but I botched them. I thought I knew the steps, but I faltered. My flawless performance was so awful, my depiction of the Star so inadequate, that the crowd that had gathered to see Him left shaking their heads. I was a failure. Why did I ever think I could play His part? I have never felt so ashamed. Slowly, I began to walk off stage when, suddenly, He was there. I look up, startled. His eyes are sad, but He smiles at me. Then He hands me the script.
